Summer Travel Tips for the RV Crowd

We’re well into summer and plenty of families are hitting the road in their RVs! Before you think about all the adventures in store, take some time to prepare for your trip. There are a few things you must do in order to make sure your RV is in good working order to help prevent mishaps on the road. Here are a few tips to help you remain safe during your travels.

  • Update your RV insurance: You should check your RV insurance policy to make sure everything is current and you have necessary extra provisions, like rental coverage or roadside assistance for those “just in case” moments that can happen on the road.
  • Get the RV serviced: If you’re going to be out on the road for a significant period of time, you should get the RV serviced before leaving. This includes tire pressure, tires, hoses, batteries, filters, water tanks and a thorough cleaning inside and out.
  • Check the water heater: You must drain and flush the heater and replace any filters or mechanisms that are old. It’s important to hit the road with fresh anodes or rods to prevent problems when you’re out and about.
  • Appliances: Check all the appliances in the RV to make sure they are all in proper working order. The refrigerator, stove and microwave should all be inspected.
  • Generator: This is important, as it runs a large portion of your RV. Check the oil and filter and keep the maintenance up even when you’re not driving your RV for a period of time.
  • Fuel filter: This should be a part of your standard maintenance schedule, but most of the time it’s not. Get your fuel filter checked and replaced if needed to ensure you don’t have any fuel-related issues on the road.

These are just a few tips to keep you safe and sound while you’re out this summer. Having the right RV insurance policy in place will add that additional protection you may need. Call your independent insurance agent to make sure you’re covered, and remember to have fun!

Stay safe during your travels. Call Insurance & Financial Services at Champions for more information on RV insurance.
